Pretty amazing read - I pulled out a few interesting paragrapahs below. The article provides a good explanation of how to clean and prepare jumbo flying squid for the table in the side column titled "Making calamari from jumbo flying squid " -

...Less than a half-hour after the New Seaforth crew found a school of jumbo flying squid Thursday night at the 9-Mile Bank, one angler's reel blew up and sent parts all over the deck...

....Throughout the night, anglers reeled in vain as hooked squid swam into the boat's prop, darted under the boat and into jigs on the other side or performed all sorts of weird maneuvers to escape the amount of hardware being dropped their way...

"These squid jigs are like lethal weapons," Hughes said of squid lures that glow in the dark, weigh up to 2 pounds and cost from $7 to more than $20. "Be very careful with them, or someone will get hurt. When you wind a squid to the surface, point the rod straight at the squid, keep the rod tip as low as possible and pointing straight at the squid." ....

"We have a crew of five tonight, but there are 76 anglers, so I can't stress patience enough," Hughes said. "At times, if we get into a wide-open bite like last night, you're all going to be yelling, 'gaff, gaff, gaff' at the same time and sounding like a herd of lambs. Just be patient. We'll get there. Some of you are going to get wet and sprayed with squid ink and water. But just laugh it off and have fun." ....
