Millions of eggs sighted near Mornington, VIC
#1
Hi Guys,

Went for a bit of spear fishing down mornington way last nite...kind of a bit windy. Only got one flounder and one flatty.

Anyways, was walking in the water and noticed it was a bit murky, on closer inspection the place was full of eggs of some sort....i realised i was walking not in water....but in freakin sperm and eggs!!! The place was literally covered in it, kinda looked clear with black dots in the center and about 3mm across....i've never seen anything like it....there was literally billions of em.

Just wondering if anyone had a clue as to what it might be??

LOL Pat!!

I saw those egg things while fishing about 3km off Carrum on the weekend, so they must be all over the bay.

Can't help you with identification though.....maybe jellyfish eggs??

I went squidding recently off Morninton pier recently and saw heaps of the stuff you described around. There were also quite a number of jellyfish floating around so jazman could be right...

cheers,

I dont think they are squid eggs dude. Do a quik search on google for squid eggs and you'll see they look nothing like that.

Anyone been in spearfishing or anything lately?? Wonder how it is with the massive amounts of fresh water in the bay!!

i was at mornington today and the water was very dirty so spearing would not be much fun! visibility would be terrible.
