Sea Lice On Bait

When you get sea lice covering your baited jag, apart from shortening the float drop, do you replace your bait? Or is it fine to tap all the lice off and re-cast?



One further question... does anyone sharpen their squid jig's/jag's (esspecially after many snags)? How is this done?

About sea lice, I have found that when the lice are bad (ie/ fishing piers at night) and you're fishing with soft baits like pilchards, they only last about 5-10 minutes before they're reduced to a skeleton. One night down at Queenscliff I went through my 12 pillies in under an hour <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> I reckon using tougher baits like silver whiting might see them last longer. I've got a photo somewhere of a baited skewer with a pilchard skeleton on it, I'll try and chase it up.



I haven't had to sharpen many jigs (I usually lose them on snags before it comes to that!), but you can do it with a small hook file, or better still one of those thin diamond files you can get for touching up the edge on knives. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
