A Big Hello (and Howdy) From Texas!
#1
Hello! My name is Jennifer Smith, and I have just joined in from Houston, TX. I do not fish for squid, however, I am currently doing a research degree part-time at the University of Aberdeen, for which I am studying squid. Interests include the Moray Firth area squid fishery (Scotland), Greek small-scale squid fisheries, and general growth and maturation relationships in L. forbesi and L. vulgaris. I am a self-funded student, which means lots of loans, and I also have a small business dealing in Irish dancewear to pay the rent! See my site at www.tartantoes.com if you are interested. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

From this site, I hope to learn a bit about squid fishing straight from you, the fishers, especially those of you with experience in UK waters.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my into post!

Hi, Glen!

I don't know anything about setting up/improving forum-type pages - sorry! Thanks for the compliment on my site, though.

I am going to try and do some interviews with fishermen in the Moray Firth area next week to trey and find out just how bad it was this past season (Fall 2006). I will post anything exciting.

Hi Jennifer,

see my reply to your request for info on squid.

Also involved in L.Forbesi and L.vulgaris study but from commercial squid jiggin (nasty hooky lures not nice polite reels! and yes its a lovely website, do you sell dance shoes in a size 14?) viewpoint rather than biology, however i am attending a course at CEFAS in Lowestoft next week held by Dr. E.M Hatfield where we shall be looking at both maturity of L.Forbesi and L.Vulgaris samples caught on our recent jigging (fishing not dancing (oh the possibilities are endless!!)) exploits. Follow the link for background info into survey ( http://www.squidfish.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1217 )
