I find that squid will take the lures day or night, night time you'll catch around lit up structures, day time I like to berley for squid.
DAY FISHING
Now when I say berley,my preferred method is liquid berley. All the juices from bait, bags, defrosted bait anything that can be squashed fine enough to create a liquid berley. I keep everything left over to keep for liquid berley, and pour small amounts as i'm heading INTO the current to where I want to anchor. Leaving a scented trail to where I fish. This way the squid are so overwhelmed by the smell/taste in the water that when they see my jigs it is more of a reaction attack rather than a "I'm hungry, lets look at this blokes jig for 5 mins attack"
That's my proven method for attracting day squid. I see boats around me move to 5,6,7 different locations to catch zero.
NIGHT FISHING
I find that fishing the piers, jettys under lights, the catch is much closer to the waters surface, so a fullish tide gets me the best catches. Also, I see more squid follow the hooked squid at the surface, and if left to fight at the surface, another jig thrown in will deffinatley earn another catch.
That's my 2 cents worth!
Now why didn't someone tell me about this site years ago???? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
