Nantucket Sound & Vineyard Sound, MA
#1
I have heard that Vineyard Sound is a good squid fishing spot. Apparently it is quite popular with commercial fisherman where they have a short but intense season in late spring.

I have recently started squid jigging in woods hole with good luck in the past week. The town dock there is very popular and usually pretty crowded, and most of the boats there are squid boats.

Hi Jared,

Any additional info about squid spots around that area would be very welcome! I would like to start up a topic for each "good spot" so that people can more easily spot the fishng reports that they are interested in.

Thanks again,

Cheers, Glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

The bait is getting thicker (and Leo's getting larger). Soon the fish will follow. Reports of squid around the west side of the Vineyard and the east end of the Canal. Amy at Sports Port is selling a lot of squid jigs as anglers gear up. Herring are thick at the runs and in the Canal. Some female herring are busy laying as many as 100,000 eggs right now, and when they return to the sea, the stripers will be waiting. You should be, too.

1. Buzzards Bay /Cape Cod Canal — Best saltwater action this week. We've got some squid, lots of herring, and more schoolies are arriving on every tide. With water temps still chilly — upper 40s — there probably won't be huge landings this week. Consider the fish who are here now a mere vanguard, millions more are on their tails. Tautog are biting around Woods Hole and some lobstermen are reporting them in their traps as well. Somewhat rare these days, but terrific table fare, catch the 'togs during the day, at slack tide, around rock piles and other structure on sea clams.

2. Islands — Schoolies around the west end of the Vineyard, chasing some squid, but nothing too crazy. Several ponds here have been stocked. Yep, pretty slow on the Vineyard so far. On Nantucket ... well, they do have a lovely daffodil festival this weekend.

3. Nantucket Sound — When the squid move in, Middle Ground will heat up. For now you might try the rocks around Bishop and Clerks, but it's slim pickings.

Glen,

A friend of mine runs a commercial squid boat in the Vineyard Sound. He does very very well when they are in, but it hasn't happened yet. The squid are around, but things are not in full swing yet. I would think that the rain and cool temps would stall the run, maybe it will light up this weekend or next week.

Draggers had fish this afternoon- not much, box/hr 1/2 box/hr....still slow but they are here. Gonna go take a peak tomorrow. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/zorro.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

BTW, this thread is either mislabeled or it should be switched to Nantucket Sound- cause thats where the fish go, not so much into Vineyard Sound, at least not in the beginning.
