New Type Of Baited Squid Jig
#1
Has anybody seen or used this type of baited jig before? It is called a squid witch and is a different design to anything I have used before. They claim better a better hook up rate and more natural presentation of fish baits, I would be interested to see if this is the case. The are a bit expensive compared to what I have used previously but it would be worth it if you catch more squid I guess!

They also have a hook which you can attach to a small fish to use as a 'teaser' to attract squid, then switch to a 'real' jig:

It's not connected to your line is it? What happens if you leave it too long and the squid chews through your bait?

Jazzman

I've seen a thing they use in Japan to catch a small fish very much like a small trout.

what they do is go and buy a live one of these fish and clip it onto their line with a stinger hook just behind the small fish and what happens is the fish are very terittorial and will strike at any fish in their little space of the river and when they strike at this small fish they get caught by the stinger hook.

very clever way of fishing.

so maybe you could do this with squid.

I have also seen that type of fishing (I think it was on 'Rex Hunt's fishing adventures many years ago, the fish is an ayu.

A lot of japanese lure companies (Jackal/Lake Police and Lucky Craft are two) produce lures which are the 'ayu' colour, it is definately one of my favorites for fishing in freshwater!

Also, if memory serves me right, ayu was a theme ingredient on Iron Chef <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I purchased both the squid witch and gill hook things. I haven't used the gill hooks yet but i can see that they would be great for teasers as it would be very quick to change fish. The squid witch is an amazing piece of work! I first read about it in a magazine and when i put it in my tommy you could hardly tell it was there, very easy to use and looked that good you almost couldn't tell that it was in there.

Unfortunately i don't have any success stories with it as the first time i used it i stupidly suspended it under a float and put it right next to a pylon. I forgot about it for a couple of minutes and it had wrapped around the pylon several times as there was quite a large amount of swell. Will be purchasing another when i next go to stock up on tackle but they are not cheap... I think i paid $25 <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> looks the goods though so i think its worth trying again. I think it would be VERY effective on those timid, hard to catch squid.
