Fishing Squid With Live Bait?
#1
I've noticed these last fishing days that squids were all around our jigs, ignorning them, however they were very hungry eating live bait, i just could see them eating live small fishes they were catching... so i wonder, if i catch these live little fishes... and i use them as a bait, could i catch the squids? seems obvious... but have u ever tried?

I find it frustrating, being from 00.00 to 6 am watching the squis in the water eating small fish all the time and not attacking our Jigs... we were over 20 people in the harbour, all with typical yo-zuri jigs... and only 3 squids were caught when it was plenty of them... eating little fishes.

what do u think?

Hi there, it is always good to use Baited Jig Lure if those artificial ones dont work. You might want to catch those little fishes using sabiki, and then use them as bait for the squid. Make sure they are fresh and my tip is to make a few cut on the little fish body, so that the "smell" will attract the squids around the Baited Jig. Also, the cut on its body will make the squids more willing to eat them because it is injured and has the "smell".

Try to get the spot that is right under the harbour light. Many people tend to hook the fish through its head first. However, i find that hooking it from the beind and then out of its mouth is more effective. This is because squids usually attack their prey from behind. Dont use weight/sinker. Let the Jig Lure sink naturally, dont worry, it will sink.

Hope that i helped you. Tell me how it works after that ...

Hi, welcome. Sabiki, also known as Apollo, has 6 rigs branching out of the main line. They are sold in packets, and available in all fishing tackles shops. Sabiki varies in their hook sizes, usually from size 4(smallest) to size 14(largest). Artificial baits are attached onto the hooks of the sabiki, so that no bait is required for fishing. However, it is more effective if you placed sliced baits, like prawns or squids, on the hooks of the sabiki.

I would recommend you to buy a size 6 sabiki to fish for baitfish, as it is my favourite size. Not too big for small bait fish, not too small for big bait fish. Try to buy those sabiki with hage fish skin or green feathers attached to the hooks as they worked well for me. I would recommend brands like Anglers' Pal or Pioneer.

An example of sabiki:

Tell me how everything works ! Dont forget and good luck !!!
