Squid Poles
#1
Hi I am looking to purchase some 8 metre squid poles.

I know they exist I held one in my hands 2 weeks ago.

It was made by Alpha Aussie poles so far I can't find one around here (Sunshine Coast Queensland) The largest I have found is 6 metres.

Any help would be greatfully apreciated.

I'm looking for 2 of these myself.

I own a 7m Alpha Aussie and looked online for a website or details of the manufacturer but don't think I found anything.

I'll contact the store I bought mine from tomorrow and see if they can help me at all. Don't know if it'll be much help, it's a small store and pretty quiet so I don't know how long my pole was sitting around in the store and if they even got it from the manufacturer or just a middleman somewhere along the way.

Message me if I don't remember to get back on this week with an answer.

Ok, just checked them out. Unfortunately the 'Alpha' name was apparently the house-brand for a wholesaler here in Victoria. I'm told their warehouse in Kensington burned down a number of years ago, after which they seem to have gotten out of the fishing-gear business and, it seems, business all together.

I'm a ham radio operator and we use these poles for antenna masts when out in the bush or beach. I do have an acquaintance who has been importing strengthened squid poles from China (I think) and selling them as antenna masts. His are a firmer fit, fewer sections and very rigid (no play in the tip). They also have no metal ring on the tip.

But he cannot source anything larger than 6.5m!

I'll keep looking around and keep everyone up to date.

Haven't really been able to find any. How are they advertised? "Squid pole" comes up with nothing.

Glen,

Harry is looking for an 8m pole, your links are for smaller and I haven't found anything larger that isn't a flagpole (and not portable). Regardless, I've found a great supplier:

Mark Winney is the guy to speak to, tell him Bryan from Melbourne sent you. They don't do 8m poles, but they do 7m & 9m (as well as 3m, 5m &6m)

Currently only 3m & 6m are in stock, but the rest should arrive soon. They don't have a retailer in Melbourne but will freight them down.

For those in Melbourne, a friend suggested Regal Marine in Forrest Hills. We also use them to support portable HF antennas and that's where he's bought his from over the years. We're HAM radio operators, too.

Hi, I'm newbie here. Have tried Pole Rod from Shimano? They have complete range even until 12 mtr's pole rod, usually they use it to catch "Ayu" fish in Japan. Sounds like a "medium" action but has extra power to fight with suitable fishes. I think this one is also suit to catch squid. Try to get it at big fishing/tackle stores or check it first by the cataloque. Many series of these pole rods, famous one is "Ayu" series.

We in our community (RAFAC - Rabbit Fish Anglers Community, Indonesia) usually use pole rods (medium to hard/hard/super hard action) to catch rabbitfish - also using multihooks & float. Only 1 - 2 series of Shimano pole rod that suit to our requirement.

Just small thought of mine. Thanks,
Ichang

I have used Haverfords for years as a supplier for the netmaking side of my business. They are great guys to deal with and will send stuff anywhere in Australia. The 6m pole is the best fun for squidding especially from a dinghy <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> .I have the 3m version set up with a baitchaser jig.Fantastic for gardies and herring.Haverfords ph#02 9588 1777
