Finding Squid Jigs

I think i just found my new best hobby.



Walking the rocks at low tide and finding squid jigs!!



Last night, while kicking around in the rocks at low tide I came across a nice Yamashita Squid Jig. WooHoo i thought, there is $20 AUD.

It was red with glowing eyes, very clean and sharp jigs... how ever, it did have a lot of tearing around the main body section of the overlaying cloth.



From closer inspection, this seemed to be from previous squid attacks, but perhaps also from the bashing on the rocks.

Just wondering what effect this has on a Squid Jigs effectiveness?

Can you just rip the cloth off altogether?

Or is it better to just trim it around the area effected and leave the rest on?



It's a nice 3.0 Yamashita and its eyes glow so well.... i can't really imagine its condition playing too much of a role, but wondered what people thought?

hard to say with out seeing it..some squid are not fussy and will go for even the worst presented jig.

depends on their mood.

better to take the cloth off altogether if you can....a permanent texta can be used.

I just went for another walk tonight (being such a low tide) and found another 2 jigs.... unfortunitly not in very good condtion though.

Yeah i might remove the cloth and have one of those hard bodied jigs.



As the squid around here attack your bait on hooks, i doubt they will be too fussy once presented with an actual jig <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I would keep the cloth on. This is where the jig get its colour and texture from, without the cloth the jig wont be as effective. These premium lures are also expertly balanced for the best action, so removing the cloth might also upset the fine balance.
