I'm very flexible with time so as long as you give me a couple hours notice, i'm usually good to go. About the stonington spot, i've never once heard of anyone catching squid down there. I mean, i'm always up for trying a new spot but agree that w/ the cost of fuel these days, taking blind stabs in the dark aren't exactly wallet friendly.
I wish I was my brother today. He's out halibut fishing in Kodiak alaska to "catch props to use in a copenhagen ad" The best part is the company is paying for all of it AND he gets to go again tomorrow. Makes me think I chose the wrong profession[/quote]
Hi Flukeprodigy, I wish I was your brother today and tomorrow too!! I was once on a cruise ship that left from Seward Alaska and I had a few hours to kill so I strolled down to the fishing boat docks. There were halibut all over the docks, some weighing up to 200 lbs. They say that Kodiak is much better than Seward.
I do a lot of fluke fishing in RI. It's my favorite fish to target. To get keepers you have to fish deep (55-100 ft) along structure (a line of lobster pots is a good indicator) using big baits (whole squid and shiner combo on adjustable tandem hooks, I like circles).
2 20" fish will feed 8 people unless they are chow hounds.
I'm off July and August to fish. We rent a cottage in Pt. Judith for a week in July where I keep my boat on the landlord's dock.
If there is a good bite up there for squid I'll be trailering as soon as it happens. Let's stay in touch along with the rest of the New Britain contingent. Snaildarter
