I am from Mansfield, MA and squid down at GI. Everytime I go there I end up fishing off to the side in the cove, I have never even fished on the bridge yet, I'll have to give it a shot if the crowd isn't too crazy. Great info about them hitting on top! I met a few guys from this site down there last year, they were EXTREMELY helpful and curteous. I enjoy learning this fishery as it is completely new to me.
As far as fly fishing, that is pretty much all I do. I fish light tackle spinning gear and flyrod for stripers and tuna. The class of tuna have gotten much bigger than the schoolie size class of fish from a few years ago, time to step up to a 14wt.
Fishing on the bridge the first week when squid runs is a good thing. Or the other side of the bridge near the hotel at night time is good, lots of light over that side.
After the news spread forget it <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> Time to find different locations ... I'm going to hunt for some this year..
I often fish at the cove after working hours stay there until 11pm to 1am depend on the bites. Its more enjoyable that way and you can talk with lots of people in this forum while you there. From what I am reading, lots of people in this forum buy generator now *save a spot for me guys*<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />
Also, I found it more enjoy-able to take few days off work and fish on the bridge during day time, much less people.
I also know a few guys/family that take a week off just to stay there to squid, they are from VA/NJ/MD area. Now that is hardcore <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
Travis, Any good place to take lesson on fly fishing ?
