I did the same ... 4 jigs in one night.
I understand the addiction, I am a striper and tuna fisherman...with fuel costs the way they are, you have to be an addict to run a boat, let alone and pay for the gear! I only started squid fishing last year and it was awesome, and my wife loved it too. Squidding is very entertaining!
TravisS,
I squid hard during month of May. Eat some save some for striper during September. Never try tuna before, tuna with flying rod is my dream fishing day *one of these days* <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
I used to buy squid in the box (I think those squids are caught from Cali) for striper, but it's not the same.
My wife hate fishing (she doesn't have patience at all) but I took her to squid fishing and she's hook.
I often bring 2 rods with me, 6'6" with 15# mono line. One rod I tie 2 jigs with weight, other rod I used one jig (2.5oz jig to 3.5 oz jig) without weight. I try braid line before, it's doesn't work great because so many times I actually yank our its tentacles <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />. 10# line is actually perfect that's what I am going to try this year. I try 6# line, don't like that much.
2 yrs ago, squid doesn't bite in the bottom, they bites on top, my friend and I get over a bucket while other people look at us and start cutting their weight.
Where are you from Travis ?
Say hi to the gang if you head down to Newport in a few weeks.
