They normally drift from the Barrenjoey end inwards (I don't have a map with me so I can't be more precise) This is relatively narrow neck but a good long drift, mostly over a sand bottom. On the Palm beach side there is a long beach ( probably called Barrenjoy??) and at the Barrenjoey Head end there are a number of boats moored. This is a very weedy area where I have caught squid previously. I imagine you can get there on foot but you would have to check on a map. Sorry to be so vague but tomorrow I'll pull out a map and see if I can be precise.
