It's been a long time since I updated this post.
Some small calamari have been caught but the main weed bed along the Mt Martha headland has been reduced. The best location is around the mussel culture farm and back towards the jetty at Safety Beach.
The depth is around 8 metres and orange multicoloured jigs work the best.
I have only been chasing the calamari for bait for schnapper. The schnapper are very friendly and have accepted many of my invitations to come for dinner.
The couta have been prolific, biting off most whiting rigs and, I dare say, keeping the squid from venturing too far.
When the couta have been away, the whiting and calamari have come on strong.
We'll have to wait for the schnapper to eat the couta before we get into the calamari.
I will be giving it another go this Sunday, but I don't hold much hope. But .... you never know.
