Hi everyone. I'm new to this whole squid fishing experience. I would like to head out to Newport and try it out... but I'm not sure what I have to bring. After reviewing last season's postings, I've already purchased yozuri squid jigs and I'm shopping for a brinkmann underwater light. PLease fill me in on the essentials.... and what's a good time to go?! high tide?!
You never know when they will be running heavy. I have seen them slam at low tide, high tide, half tide, day or night. You just have to be there at the right time. When they run...they run. You have to go a lot and hope you hit them. I bought one of those Brinkmann lights and used it off my boat. It looked so great hanging off the transom I almost creamed myself. I thought I would kill them. Proved to be no better for me than regular gas lantern. It was so bright I can not believe it did not work better. I have tried to hang it at all depths but nevr killed them with it. I have few new tricks I will try this year. If any work I will post them. Who knows...but I can not wait. Nothing better than fresh squid. I could never use these beauties for bait. Yum Yum
