A friend showed me your forum last year and I have been getting a kick out of the posts and passion for squid fishing you all have. I went with my Dad years (over 25) ago off Newport for squid and I barely remember it. Last year I swore I would go and take my kids (5 and 7) but striper fishing takes up most of my time and I never get around to it. Last night I was at Benny's and picked up a handful of yozuri jigs and really hope to get out there with my kids. Not looking for buckets, just a handful for scup bait would be great. So....I have a few questions I hope I can get answered without anyone giving away secrets.
1. I know goat island is a key area, what about times? I know night is best, but with the kids, is early morning( 7-9am) or evening (7-9pm??) good too?
2. We have a boat too, are there areas I could try for squid during the day with the kids?
3. Do you put a weight at the bottom of the rig with the yozuri or just fish them direct?
Any help is greatly appreciated and I hope the squid show up in big numbers and you all have a great season!

yeah i would not bring kids out after sunset... the wind and temperature on the bridge can be brutal...
i usually use a 1 oz (sometimes a 2 oz) sinker depending on the water current... under the bridge is notorious for snagging...
OK... does anyone know of a fishing news section for the cape cod newspaper sites... something like a projo outdoors fishing report??
