Hi Leonard,
Came across the squid fish forum whilst researching for a new forum we are starting, maltafishingforum.com in an effort to raise awareness levels on fishing in Malta but most importantly to give Maltese amateur fisherman a forum portal to congregate to.
My particular focus is big game offshore fishing, Blue fin Tuna from a boat, 20-50 miles out from the coastline, something not really practised much in Malta on rods and reels! Just commercial fisherman with long lines.
One of the things we were trying to do it catch squid as bait! but we didn't have any luck last year and from what I read here on this forum, probably because it was the summer months. Have some squid jigs bought locally, we tried shining a spot lamp into the water to start the feeding cycle, but we didn't really manage!
Aside from Tuna we want to explore night time drift fishing for Sailfish, Swordfish etc, and to that effect we have purchased a swordlight, 4.5 foot very expensive neon tube as my buddy described it! It's a submersible green light used to attract bait fish and even big game, and I would guess squid as well.
I certainly would be interested in learning more.
Regards,
Nick
