Baited Skewers With Inbuilt Float
#2
i would try buying the standard skewers and get half a wine cork and drill a hole through the centre and slide into onto the skewer. make the hole small enough so it is a tight fit and the cork will not move.

(i am just guessing half a wine cork would be the same size as the float you described but adjust the size however you need to).

i have never seen these float-jig combos before. i would be interested to hear if they actually improve your catch rates.
