G'day Jim,

Just use one squid jag, many people will argue with me on this point but just use the cheapo squid jags, I do, plus I make my own for a bit of fun.

Using a weighted jag you wont really need a sinker, if the water is really moving then maybe try a sinker. google Patternoster. You'll want to be at least 1 metre of the seabed/ ground.

Squid I find are a bit more active on sun-up and sun-down but you'll catch them at any time. The only time they don't eat is when they're mating and scared of something, otherwise theyre fairly hungry creatures, hence the cheap squid jags.

Squid can be caught all year round here in S.A. April onwards the numbers of squid reduce but the size of the squid gets bigger. November onwards the numbers of squid increase allthough are generally smaller than the winter squid.

Squid are everywhere, Jetties, rocks, etc. My best advice is to fish over or near rocky weedy sort of areas. I have seen squid in ankle deep water and caught them in up to 8 metres. Deeper is better in winter, in summer they come inshore more.

Jim, as your new to squidding please be aware there is no size limit on squid here in S.A. but there is a bag limit which is 15 per person.

Good luck and tight lines.

Baamook.
