I actually wanted to try how abundant are squid on our area: the idea was to use a bike to better explore the coast line. I stop by the fist lamp post close to the shore and I didn't need to move... one after the other they found the jig irresistible. 1h30 and my container was full.
I was using a simple Kiwell squid jig... nothing fancy. A long and light rood to give the lure a good and slow mid water animation. Most of the fishing was done just before my eyes and could see all the entertaining action.
The squid where attacking the lure just behind the head, and only after a nice scrap they'll release and get properly hook. I'll need to add some barbs on the area to hold them better.
When the fishing gets harder I use a train of 3 "squid flies" behind a small baited rig. I fish this the same way I would fish trout with a dead fish (in france) and I cover a lot of ground combing the coast line. I'll always do well with this.
Greg... what you reckon would be the best size wire to build small squid hooks. The SS I got is too thin and I have hard time to do them so they hold properly. The next one I try was to thick!!! I can do them quite fast: I'll post a tutorial once I get the wire right...
