Quote:hi all. I'm new to sqidding and want to thank all of you for sharing on this forum. i look forward to the day that i can contribute based on my own successes. does anyone know if the squid make their way up the Sakonnet River into portsmouth? or do they only go up the West side of the island?Â
The short answer is that there are almost certainly squid on the East side of the Island. The tough thing is that you will have to find a spot that is accessible with the right conditions. That side of the island is mostly shell, sand and mud bottom with very little weed. You might try 3rd beach in Middletown or possibly up by Stone Bridge, but I would expect not to catch anything for a whole lot of time and effort. The other side of the Island is where most of the eelgrass beds and weedy bottom are, with all the coves and harbors and semi-enclosed areas that squid seek out. If you've got a boat, you can go pretty much anyplace. Otherwise, I would head over to the West side of the island.
