Hi Stewart,
I have been given the following advice from a friend in squid research:
"For
recreational fishers who want to minimise pain I'd recommend putting the
squid on ice or in a seawater-ice slurry asap - technically this is called
cold water anaesthesia and is supposed to 'dull' their nervous system,
before killing them."
