Help with a new entry level eging setup
#1
Hi guys,

I am new to the forum and as you can imagine totally addicted to eging. I was given a Shimano Catana 662 Spin combo with a Shimano SiennaFD 2500 spooled with 10lb PowerPro. I have been having great success with the Yamashita Live jigs sizes 2, 2.5 and 3, might even start using 3.5's as I seem to catch bigger squid with the bigger jigs. My fishing is split evenly between the shore and off a small boat.

I love the setup ($99) but feel it's time for a more dedicated eging setup. I am not looking for a real expensive combo & looking to spend between $300-350. I was mainly interested in a rod with eging guides (K-Guides etc) and a shallow spool reel with some egi braid (0.8PE/10lb)

I just got an order of jigs from plat.co.jp and were extremely happy with their service (and price!) I was looking at a Shimano Sephia BB 2500SDH reel spooled with VARIVAS Avani eging PE Max Power 0.8PE.

As for a rod I was looking at the Shimano Sephia BB R Rods, but am getting a feeling after researching all day that there may be better budget options such as a Major Craft Zaltz Eging or a Daiwa E-GEE Outguide.

Just looking for a bit more guidance from more experienced egingers as I have searched the net high and low and just need some direction. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Michael.
