Newport Ri 2011 Squid Season

The waters are too warm down Newport and Striped Bass have been invading the area so Squids are kinda scarce. Frances Fleet maybe slowing down to about a little under a bucket a person rather than 1.5 bucket/person. I think Squidders are all squided out and have full freezers. I'm gonna probably head out to Green Hill Monday night and will post a report.

Lots of sm-med squid around. Very picky. They came. They left. Came again, hung out & circled the lit up area the whole ebb tide. Tried pretty much every jig I had. And I have plenty of jigs lol.



Some cautiously approached the jig...some swam right past it like it wasnt even there...and some were just totally spooked out by the presence of any jig, nomatter what shape, sz or color...Just not hungry/aggressive.



I managed to get just under a doz...2 of them I just happened to snag. We probably couldve gotten more. But it was like trying to walk up a down escalator. After a little while it got frustrating as hell & we left.
