i would personaly think that the van staal is a little to much for squid. but i havnt held one so cant comment.
the diawa reels are good ive heard. im going to get the diawa E-GEE which is the step down from the Colossal. they are both nice reels and have there are a few great reports from them.
but i reacon if you get ur rod go in to the store and put the van staal on it and see how it feels and the same as the Colossal.
another opion that quite a few people use is the shimano stradic Ci4 which is a good squidding reel but also doubles up as a light spinning reel.
