Sorry for the delay...here's my report from last night:
Me and my brother-in-law got to Greenport (Marina docks, not Railroad docks) around 11pm. We set up our light and caught our first squid within 20 minutes. Was a very slow night and we ended up with only 5 total and left around 1:30am. It was certainly good to catch a squid after getting skunked last year.
Water was very calm and there was a decent amount of baitfish swimming around in the light. Heard a few splashes around us throughout the night and saw one bluefish dart through our light (not good). At one point we saw a school of about 10 squid slowly cruise through our light but they were not interested in the jigs or baitfish at all. Must be spawning, one guy next to us said.
Not too many people out there trying. There were about 4 or 5 on the marina dock and i'd guess about 10 max on the railroad dock. From the chatter across the way we heard they were picking a few squid here or there...I think one guy said he had 10, but I can't confirm that.
Anyway...maybe this is the start? Going back tonight. If anyone is out at the marina dock, we're the two guys with the halogen light and yellow wagon. Good luck all.
