I've had success with both cheap jigs and expensive ones, and even done several trips out on both land based and boat based to test out the theory. On the boat the expensive ones were just as effective as the cheaper ones on some days, and on other days there would be around 4-5 caught on the cheap one and 13-15 on the other. Land based i have never done well with cheaper jigs ($2-5 ones), even using different rods and changing techniques.
Even in a recent squid comp in perth me mate and i won, we used both cheap and expensive jigs and the cheaper ones caught i think either 2 or 3 squid out of 17. That day was pretty murky and overcast and raining so it may have had something to do with it.
Anyway just my 2 cents!
Cheers,
Pete
