Squid And Water Temp?
#1
Like some other species, are Squid depended on mean water temp?

I'm on the Victorian South coast, i just always thought squid were there all year round.

I know the Commercial Squid fleet move in at a certain time of the year (around November) the same time as the big snapper turn up.

So is it water temp they move in with? Or currents or are they chasing food?

Current ocean temp here is 13.9 degrees...... I would of thought that would be warm enough...

We fish for them out wide, often in 40 - 50 meters of water, sometimes they are on the surface, but most times they are found at a certain depth.

I often wonder how Temperature dependent they are?? Any ideas on this?
