There has been a lot of talk about them being colour blind and contrast being the difference.
Here is the picture used earlier of the different colours converted to B&W.

I did see a documentary on Cuttlefish (don't know if it applies to squid) which showed that they not only see in the normal spectrum of light but also in Ultra Violet which could be reflected differently by different colours and materials.
Don't know for certain, people alot smarter than me have devoted many hours to the subject, but it is food for thought.
My current favorite is Pink.
