Hi Mikii,
I've caught 3kg squid on 2.5 jigs and 6lb line.
You just need to have your drag settings right. Big squid will take line.
You will also need a good landing net that reaches past the water line.
Many big squid are lost when lifted up.
I have caught more big squid however with baits (whole fish) on a jag
under a float.
Squid seemed to have moved up the bay also.
Brighton pier may be a closer option for you.
Just look out for the ink stains on the pier for productive areas.
