Hey enough of you guys get generators and we can forget about lights and just juice the bay and collect squid crocodile Dundee style. I know of at least one person who shorted out last year. Make sure to think it through and if you are tying them off for support instead of dangling by the cord, make sure it is not going to melt.
I was there when one fellow lost his nice, brand spanking new, coleman lantern due to use of a rope not rated for applications at >300 F.
( I was also there the following day when another guy who was new to squid fishing had his lures set off his line with steel leaders and insisted that he wanted to thy it "his way". I shrugged and let it go. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='q:' /> Then some older guy walking by on his way off the causeway with his catch in hand, walked passed double took the rig this guy was using, pulled out a knife and without asking grabbed the rig cut it off and started mumbling something like "that's not the way you do it" and re-rigged him. Of course I am laughing my bobbers off, and this guy's looking at me like "I should of listened to you".
So he casts out and in a couple casts, he gets hung up on the bottom.
So now everyones explaining the "run a lead sinker down there and hammer on it trick" and every other damn way or freeing a stuck rig. At ~ $7 bucks a lure one begins to wonder why we don't just go buy them down point Judith..
So in a last ditch effort the guy starts to brute force the line (he was using a little trout rod so, he probably had, at best, 10lb test on it.
The rig starts coming in. Slowly he works the line and the thing that he was hooked on emerges.

Thanks for the update. And DrCiro. When I use to fish off the bridge. I always lost lures. Theres a trip Vietnamese people do tie 2 5lb weights or ounces. W.e measurement it is. On to a seperate little fishing line. Then tie it into the caught line. So basically a line going straight down and caught. Tie another circle at the top with weights and let it slide down. Start jiggin on the caught line and the chances of you getting lure back is 3/4

Lets see, pointers...
1.) Be careful where you park and dont forget to feed your meter.
2.) Pink Yo-Zuri's Rock.
3.)Wear cloths you dont mind getting inked.
4.)Warm clothes for night.
5.)Bring a couple oz. sinkers for current. (1 and 2's)
6.)Lights help, but, not required.
7.) Fill your tank up before you enter RI. (gas prices are brutal here)
8.) Get your "ninja on" if somebody invades your space.
9.) Old Asian women catch squid when everyone else is not. Try to stand close to her.
That's what comes to mind, anybody else want to add?

Becca
I've only done it a couple of seasons but I would recomend:
1. Don't be anxious, just relax and have fun.
2. read through the posts from last year for info.
3. bring a half dozen or more Yo-Zuri squid jigs in different colors (pink and green have worked well for me). Most people use a rod and reel like you would use for fresh water Bass. What worked best for me was to lower the jigs (on short dropper loops and a light sinker on the bottom) just out of sight below the lights and hold them there until you feel a bite.
4. Bring the best light you can, with a generator and halogen lights being the best by far, followed by (in my experience, a Coleman lantern, the type that burns propane and uses "mantles").
5. If you don't have a generator, try to get there early so you can get as close as possible to someone with a generator.
6. Dress very warm as it gets real cold out there this time of year after a few hours, and wear OLD clothes because if the fishing's good you'll probably get sprayed with salt water and maybe some squid ink.
7. Bring a snack and maybe something hot to drink as well as a plastic bag to take your trash with you when you leave.
8. Lastly, have some recipies on hand at home as well as means to cook Calamari because really fresh squid are delicious!!
I will not be able to go this Saturday, need to take the boat for a sea trial, too much to do. However, Sunday is looking good, so I will be looking forward tot he possibility of some squid reports from tonight and Saturday!!! Good luck!
