$197.00 each, came with oil, felt bag and a pckg of circle hooks. retail is $219 which was available everywhere at the show with most "offering" 10% discount if you asked for it. Did better on the rods at $91, retail of $140.

Current water temp in Newport is 43.0 °F. Getting closer folks. The full moon this year falls around there arrival last year. Planning a trip middle of next week for those who may want to join me.

Hey everyone, I picked up quite a few jigs over the weekend, and I was hoping some of the more experienced squid fishers could let me know if i'm in decent shape to start the season. The following three links are some of the types I got. Let me know if you think they're good or not. Thanks!

Good picks Sommerville Squidman,
Last year, 'pink'( A333-4 ) and green ( A333-24 ) were the killers.
I never try Flashdancer yet, so I don't know. Let us know if that work out for you.
Check out their new 2008 items.

Hello Squidman,
The jigs above are winners. I currently use the two Yo-Zuri's listed. Specifically the 4" pink jig is my favorite. Using such a jig this spring will bring you squid fortune. I recomend using pink and green together for best results. Also, I prefer the larger older yo-zuri's w/o the scales, thats just my preference though.
Happy Squiding!

Hey Travis,
Things are good. Ahhh...Cod fishing, I couldn't make it out this winter. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
I was considering picking up a generator this season, but, so many of my freinds now have one. I'll pitch in for gas money though. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> Looking forward to see all my buddies out there.
Cheers,
Tatonka

Got this from another online friend; check this out for water temps:
Hereâs a tip if you donât know already. You can access the weather buoy data just north of the Newport Bridge at the PORTS web site: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/ports.html
Just go to Narragansett Bay on the left side, click on Newport, and then click on the PORTS icon that appears there. The 3 day charts will give you water temps, etc. updated hourly. You can try and correlate the squid activity to the conditions (not easy) to see if you can predict full bucket trips. The buoys are on the surface so you can watch the temps rise and fall with the daytime sun heating the water. Last year we had a full moon that timed well with the first blitz. This year the full moons are on April 9 and May 9, so that wonât be a factor at the start of the season.
Everybody say, "Thank you George".

Busterblue,
Pretty positive this year's full moon is on the 20th.
