busterblue, we understand how you feel. New Port Auth. may shutdown squid fishing that would sucks big time.
Let's do this then, when we go squid fishing this season, let's takes turn to pick up trash when the squids slows down to a halt.
I know last year, I talked to bunches of guys about pick up their own trash, they look at me like I am from another planet.

They used to do squid fishing on the weekends for 2 weekends in early May. Now they are doing squid fishing daily for 2 weeks. I guess the demand must be there.

I was checking Hy-Line fishing website and looks like they are doing the squid fishing this year. You have to call them to find out the schedule.

My opinion on all this is. If you bring trash and throw it away its fine. You shouldn't havee to pick up after other people. Eventually, I dont think they will shut down the bridge. They will just have cops on scene and either 1 fine those people who litter. Or 2 Kick them off the bridge. I'm glad you agree that you should throw away your own trash; too bad everyone doesn't act that way. But don't kid yourself. The police are not going ot hand out tickets or kick people out for littering.
My challenge is not linked to or motivated by the threat of the resource being closed to us. I believe that it is my duty, honor, blessing, mitzvah to the planet, the people and to G-d to leave everything and everyone I touch better than I found it/them. If more people felt even a little bit more this way than OUR environment and society would be better for all of us. There will always be idiots who I/we cannot change and who violate and will continue to violate our persons and our environment by thier actions. My challenge is to those of us who care enough about it to do more than clean up after yourself, clean up for yourself.
If someone else's trash blows into your yard would you wait for the "owner" to come by and pick it up? If someone elses trash is in the place where you are fishing would you pick it up or would you say "Its not my trash I'd rather stand here and look at it then clean up after someone else?"
I'm off my soapbox now,.. I leave you all to carry on in a manner appropriate to the sort of person you want to be.
I rant because there are no squid to talk about yet and I haven't fished in too long but I mean what I say.

dont under estimate shutting it down for fishing... I know quite a few bridges u CAN'T fish off. =) the police can do whatever they want.

I know. Do any of you guys know the place to fish in jamestown. Its a campground. A little small bridge type. People NET squid there. Lol

I'm another one who doesn't mind picking up a piece of trash and putting it where it belongs. We should all try to get off the asian card also. Only reason it's more noticed to be an Asian involved is because of the fact that there is so many more of them than others. I'm white American, born and raised. My wife is 100% Filipina ( Asian ) and our son is who he is.... We enjoy the bridge and squiding as a family, and we have made many friends there over the years. Friends of all nationalitys.
Yes, you will always have your bad apples in such large gatherings, but they are still outnumbered by the good and caring. I've seen good and bad in all nationalitys and cultures, in many different places in the world. But our little squid heaven just happens to be named Goat Island Bridge, and if it takes for me to pick up after others at times to help save our little heaven, I'll do so without complaining. But for those who don't want to take care of their own or respect our little heaven, be forwarned, the big dog and little dog will be watching, and all guilty will be pointed out to the police this season. I'll be dammed if my family loses a place we have come to love so much, over so few who really don't care.

Hello
I live in the newport area and I do have to say please help keeping the newport area clean from trash, even if YOU dont bring it and see some trash BE A GOOD SQUID FISHERMAN and help clean up after the slobs....This year the local police and DEM will be in full force at the bridge and state piers. Anyone caught "DUMPING TRASH" will get a fine up to 2500.00, How do I know this? Well my brother is a Newport Cop. It doesnt matter if your white,black,yellow or even grenn... Lets all work togther so we can have many more years of catching squid in Newport.. Good luck this year and thank you...

Well I use to go there when the bridge was to crowded. People let me in on it. Then eventually it got crowded. But i dont know about now. It was a bridge that just went like alittle. Its like a L shape but then flip the L to the right. And people would have long nets and just put them in and squids would some how stupidly run in them. Now I've seen NETS AND NETS OF SQUID but when I tried with a brand new net. SNAP so I never tried again. But I've seen tons of people net squid instead of fish

Newport town council is talking about closing the goat island bridge for all fishing because the hotel is complaining about the trash...this is the last year if we dont keep it clean it will be banned...........

it should start within 3-4 weeks from now, look for the new moon or full moon for the month and its usually 2-3 days after that

so the fishing will be sucky the day before the new moon? because none of the mooons are on the weekend except for the sunday night but that doesnt really work ne ways.

Merchantmarine- They been talking about it for awhile now. Although the trash subject has been talked about I think that matter is over. We all know what needs to be done. If they shut it down. What can we say. Atleast we tried
As for squidheads: April 18 is a good date. A friday and it seems around that time zone. It will start heating up on Around April 21

You never know, I would go the day before the new moon, day of and for the next three weeks after that.... it can be hit or miss sometimes
