Moreton Bay Squid, QLD
#1
Hi everyone,

I found this information about squid fishing spots around Moreton Bay. Its a little out of date but should give you an idea of where you can catch some squid -

Moreton Bay

Quote:Night fishing at Victoria Point has produced some quality bream for anglers with fresh baits. Casting a squid jig may also be productive as there have been a few about of late. They would make excellent fresh baits for the bream and occasional squire that has been around.

Moreton Bay

Quote:There has been some good squid being caught around the weed beds at Moreton and Peel. The humble squid jig is still the best way to catch a few for a tasty calamari feast or prime bait.

Moreton Bay

Quote:The rocky shallows on the eastern side of St. Helena have been producing a few squire as well as some stud bream and sweetlip. A squid jig worked around this area is also likely to attract a few fresh squid, which make prime baits or table fare.

Moreton Bay

Quote:The canals at Raby Bay have been producing some good numbers of squid over the last few days. They are apparently quite thick on the run in tide and a

feed of tasty calamari rings is a good incentive to get the old squid jig out and have a few casts.

Hi all,

I am a new member from Brisbane Queensland. Since I was a young boy I have always been squiding around Peel Island (Moreton Bay). I have been in Cairns for the past 4 years and now back in Brisbane, yesterday I went to my old spots around Peel Island and gigged for squid, not one not a single squid or cuttle fish all day. Some old fishing mates of mine have told me that they have not caught squid or cuttlefish around Peel Island for years and I didn't believe them, I am still shocked and amazed with this, is anyone aware of this and if so what is the reason......I would love to know and or where are all the squid in Moreton Bay.

Thanks look forward in being part of this great site.

Hello Claud

I too am trying to work out where the squid are in Moreton Bay. I managed to get one today (Pencil Squid) in Waterloo Bay west from St Helena Island, but had no interest at all after that.

but I have been kicking ass up untill now with scores up to 25.

yea it is a long way but if yea throw some deep sea gear on board just incase its just one of those days. but iv never had any bad luck always court some squid. theres a man made reef on the closes side to brisbane of moreton. that might be worth a shot. i court some snapper of them and as i gutterd them they were full of squid wasnt bait it was freash. so i was going to go give it a shot but cuz of the wind change and the cold change i wasnt going to try it intill spring.[indent]

Had planned to fish for snapper Friday morning but changed it to Sat. Drifted the northern side of Mud out wide for one snapper and three tuskies plus throw backs. happy with that.

Cheers...Wazza
