Coventry Area, Jamestown, Galilee Etc

I'm brand new at squid fishing (I've caught one squid) but this year I''ve got a light, a couple of nice Yozuri jigs, and I'm rarin' to go.



My difficulty is that I live on the west side of the bay (Coventry) and it's a good 1/2 hr drive to reach ANY salt water and then quite a bit longer, toll bridge etc to reach Newport, so I'm hoping to find some good places to squidfish on this side of the bay.



My questions are, What makes the Goat Island causway so good for squid? What type of structure etc should I look for to find them over here? Any advice on places to go day or night? Should I use chum? Thanks in advance for the help.

I would say anywhere there is deepish water and lights. I know in the old days, there used to be lots of squid along the docks and fish plants in Galilee. I have heard that they are still there.

Has anyone fished over in Gallilee or Jamestown?

If so where?

Is sounds like if things keep up the way they are we might be looking for a place other than G.I.

Went out on the Francis Fleet last night out of Point Judith, 6 hour trip. Was very slow only 17 squids.



Fluke were grabbing our squid jigs, maybe that shut the squid off?
