Hi, Tech Input Please?
#1
hows it going guys. im a yellow canadian who just migrated here to north syd, willoughby. been spearfishing for a while now along clontarf beach and some other northern beaches, wondering if theres other spearos nearby...

anyways im fascinated by calamaries, it'd be great if anyone can tell me the protocols associated in getting them. i knew they're nocturnals, how do u catch them during day time?

any techniques to lure them with shiny materials or flash light?

where do they usually congregate, in caves or sandy bottom or seagrass?

thx before hand for any inputs

cheers

squid are pretty easy to spear. i have caught them with handspears wading the shallows at night. with a speargun i guess you might make a mess of them but they should be easy to catch. i have got within firing distance while snorkelling (but i don't carry a spear gun usually).

try the local reefy areas. you will see them during the day too. try a cloudy day and you might see more of them. find a spot with nice clear water. it's hard to predict when you will run into them. i came across them in a fairly random way while snorkelling. good luck!
