Went for a couple of hours Wednesday night. Had to leave at 9:15PM. It was just too cold with the wind. The squid bite was very slow while I was there.

Thursday morning it was flat calm on an outgoing tide, 2 waves of squid came through, managed 32 in about 40 minutes of fast action. Others caught even more. Before fishing I took the time to sweep and pick up trash, filled a 32 gallon trash bag on east half of bridge and area around the inlet. Squid fishers, if you want to be able to keep this area open to fishing PLEASE do not trash the place. It was disgusting the amount of trash left from the 2 previous nights.
I missed the hot time today. I did not go early this afternoon because it was low tide. When did they hit hot and heavy? LOW TIDE! I saw guys leaving with two 5 gallon buckets filled with squid. They caught them in about 3 hours. Maybe tomorrow I'll hit the right time.
The word from the shops I deal with near Goat Island is that the Squid ARE IN!!! We have been sending shipments daily all over the East Coast.
Here is one of the HOT models for 2006. We actually don't have too many of these left as demand was pretty high, but should have enough for another week or so.
These are "Lumo-Lens Prawn", somewhat similar to the Yozuri jigs, but we make these with a luminous strip along the bottom seam. Charge up the jig with a good light source, and the glow from the bottom reflects off the holographic center. VERY HOT!!! Length on these is about 4".

hey went for squid lastnite (saturday) got there about 1 am fished till 5 am got 20 good size squid. the water was very low but i managed to get my spot on the bridge and get some good squid.
Fished the incoming tide Sat from 4pm to midnight around Quonsset Pier (about 2 miles N of Jamestown Bridge)
Squid were everywhere and we did well near the channel edge around 27 feet of water. At dark we moved close to the pier in 15 feet of water. Chummed with clam/bunker chum on the bottom. When we ran out we sprayed chopped up shiners with bunker oil. Squid were very aggresive on the pink as well as white Yozurri jigs until slack tide (10pm) The bite started againaround 11:15 but was much slower. Left at midnight with 3 full 5 gal. pails split between the three of us. A good haul needless to say. Snaildarter.
I went out on friday night. Got to the bridge just before high tide. The bite started off ok, then just died and never picked back up. Btwn 4 of us, we only managed about 20 squid total <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> I'm going again this weekend and hoping for much better results. All mine were caught on pink jigs.

looks like there is another place we can enjoy squid fishing. Could you plz tell me more specific info about the where you fish. During the run you can fish almost anywhere, especially with a boat. We found channel dropoffs worked. Drift till you find them and then anchor up. Chum them in and keep them there. Near well lit piers at night works well. If you don't have a boat, you need a well lit place that has a current running. We catch them all summer off the docks in the marinas at New harbor at Block Island.
For $20 it is well worth buying a Brinkman underwater light that clips to a 12 volt battery. it will bring them in to you and with some chum you should be able to keep them coming. Best of luck.

It's a good spot to go, but water is a little shallow. I have never caught anything there during the day, but at dusk and after dark it is a good spot.
went squidding last night in the wind and rain. caught 36 squid in just under an hour and a half. i decided to leave when my squid-light ran out of batteries.
i have been using my homemade squid-light for 3 seasons and it works like gangbusters... it's just a waterproof flashlight rubberbanded to a spool of 60 pound test, anchored with a 6 or 10 ounce bank sinker.
I usually rubberband it facing up and send it to the bottom... but sometimes i rubberband it facing down and hang it a foot under the surface.
I came up with this rig because gas generators and halogen lamps are simply not in my budget.
I went last night, 5/2. I had been by earlier in the day with no luck. Once the sun went down it was a different story... for most people there. I suffered the wind and rain for an hour and yielded only one. It was still exciting for me, it was my first squid ever. I was using a cheap spinning rod and three cheap jigs from Benny's and Wally World. No one on this board mentioned the secret weapon. A coleman lantern over the side of the bridge. These guys were doing much better than me, cleaning up and filling their buckets. I was a little reluctant to slide into the group of twenty or so with a dozen lamps over the side but I will return this weekend with a lamp of my own. (I love the idea posted above, simple, effective and cheap!!) By the way, I thought squidding would be a good idea for me because I fish all summer and since I can't get Herring anymore, it's a source of lots of free striper bait. I did take my one squid home last night, cleaned it, what a treat, and gave it a quick toss in bread crumbs followed by a warm bath in hot oil. Delicious, like clam strips. I think I have a new plan for the squid I catch. Thanks for all the tips.
