North Mole, Fremantle WA

I'm really new to fishing, let alone squid fishing!! I was at North Mole in Fremantle but there were too many blowfish. I decided to try my green razorback squid jig (size 3 I think?) and within 10 minutes, I had a bite!



At first I thought it was brown seaweed, but I soon realised (after noticing sudden brown squirts from the water) that I had an octopus clinging onto my lure!!! Unfortunately, I was too eager and lost the octopus, and soon after my boyfriend lost my jig!! AAARGH. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />



Anyway, just thought the WA squid/octopus fishermen would like to know that there's a brown octopus in the North Mole area, just waiting to be caught! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



Anyone with any suggestions as to where else to get squid near the metro area?

Yep North mole has lots of squid and occy at times. Good places for squid at the moment is



In the Swan River

Claremont Jetty

Bicton Baths Jetty

Point Roe on an incoming tide



Or you can try



Hillaries- South sea wall ...half way along

Ocean Reef Marina

South Beach along the Fremantle Sailing Club sea wall

North Beach jetty just near the change rooms....good spot at night under the lights there.

hey mate, should try woodmans point dusk or dawn.

i have caught a couple there but i know that the old boys catch heaps there.

G'day salmo, i am wondering if you have been squidding lately, and where?

I am about to go on 2 weeks leave and want to go but i am sick of woodmans point.

Swan river squidding?

where abouts? and what colour lures have you been using?

and what time is the best?

Salmo thanks for the info just a question, at the Freo sailing club do you fish around the jetties or any where specific?

What lures do you use colours size etc.

Freo sailing club rockwall...south side casting at the weed patches in the sand.

Or the west seawall of the Fishing boat harbour....try to get on the end and cast north towards boat museum/south mole...



Good luck...got a few there early yesterday before the southerly kicked in

North Mole has produced a steady stream of successful landings of pink snapper -- not huge numbers but enough to make it worth sitting there for a while. Herring and garfish have also been on tap at North Mole. Squid numbers have tapered off, but there are still enough about to provide a target. Evenings are definitely best, especially if you're shore bound, with water from Woodman Point to South Mole the area to try.
