Help! Can This Possibly Be A Squid's Egg Mass?
#1
hi everyone,

i need some help here. I and my colleagues have always been puzzled what this thing really is. Some insist that it's a jellyfish because reports had it that it can severely sting. However, it doesn't even look like a cnidarian. I searched everything and found that it might be an egg mass of a squid? What do you think? But if so how come it stings?

thanks,

IDA

Hi Ida,

Don't know if you got your answer or not, but yes they are eggs from a diamondback squid. Here's a link where you can see for yourself! I saw some again while diving off Molokini in Maui Hawaii (first time was 10 years ago or so).
