Southern QLD

Hi guys.

Love this forum. We have recently ( in the last 12 months) moved up here to qld from melbourne And were wondering if there are any places in the southern areas (gold coast to brisbane) where one can catch squid?

We are both avid anglers that love all aspects of fishing, but we DEFINATELY want to catch some squid again for a change!

Can anyone help?

Hi and welcome to squidfish!



I was up in the Gold Coast for a week of holidaying, at main beach. There were locals there every morning catching whiting and dart quite easily with the occasional sea bream and sole around. Didn't see any squid around there, however i know that main beach in the morning is a excellent spot to fish with pretty much a guranteed catch rate of some decent fish. As for bait, just dig your heel in the sand and find the pipi's lurking below or you could get sand worms on the beach.



Certainly a great area for fishing and i wish you luck on finding some squid!

A few Q's



What are (if any) best months for squid?

Hot spots around the Broadwater Gold Coast in a boat?

Lights? Do you need them to attract them?



I'm new to Squidding and appreciate any help.

As I'm new to squidding too I can only tell you what I think I know or have heard. I have heard that the best months are the summer months. But they are caught all year round in the southeast at least. as for hot spots in Broadwater I don't know but if you can find your own secret one you wont have to share! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':moped:' /> The best way to find your spot for night fishing is simply try somewhere where there is light. Try at night when the water is clear and see if any squid follow your lure. Sometimes they hang out in schools just under the jetty or in darker places close to the light. Another give away is the squid ink left behind from other anglers. So if you wan't your spot to be hush hush all yours dont leave any ink behind. Also try the shallow water first you will be surprised that is usually where I find them (2 too 3 foot of water). Otherwise during the day I have caught them over weed beds in the bay etc. I wish to try it with a light also at night in the bay.
