The squid season has apparently opened. Fisherman have caught up to 10 squid from boats. We will be trying our luck at the small Marfa Jetty this week.

Mostly something close to your Martinetti â„¢ Tiger Fish Luminous Squid Jig. I usually use Yozuri, but I wouldn't mind trying out some others to be honest. I also ocassionaly use something like the Tiger Prawn Luminous Squid Jigs, they are more successful for Cuttlefish.

Its Mid October and the squid are'nt coming to shore yet. I've seen a few running around but catches have been very low, from none to 2 or 3 max. Vopi (Bouge) is very plentiful too so they are finding enough food to keep them away from plastic jigs!

hi ciappinu,

i was curious to find some pictures of vopi and I think I found some:

while searching for a picture of a vopi i found a list of translations of maltese squid and fish that I thought was useful. This was from the maltese fisheries website <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi Glen.

For a complete list of fish in the mediterranean you can go here, still under development but it works.

Here you will find most fish in Italian, Maltese, English and Latin with a hyperlink to pictures on each fish.

thanks very much leonard! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> have you been catching any squid in the last month or so?

Not much squid this year unfortunately. The weather has not gone too cold yet and the sea is still quite warm. Last year I had probably around a 100 squid until now from October. This year I'm still at 5, but I haven't been down the pier everyday either. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I bought the jigs at a local store called "Ray's Outdoors"...the fishing gear was on sale - 25 or 30% off. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

We had lots of squid here in February. We were catching around 12 each time we went out with the boat. Not much luck from the shore though. February has been the squid month here in Malta. Some have caught up to eighty in one night.

Last week i went fishing for squid and thye weather was horrible.Wind was blowing at 20 knots and the sea was brown. To my amasment squid attacked more often then calm sea.I went home with seven squids and a cuttlefish. So it must be true that squid goes nuts during a storm. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

Yes its true ,squid do tend to go into a feeding frenzy during a storm and Ive caught some of my best bags during some of the wildest weather in water the color of coffee.

As Glen said would like to hear more..

Well done
