Arrow squid

I have tried to cook my arrow squid in a pressure cooker.



I heated them for 30 minutes and they turned into mush.



I have tried marinating them in milk without success.



Finally I now understand what to do with them.



BAIT BAIT BAIT



DOG or CAT FOOD



If anyone knows a better use for them please help.

Hi Wes,



Have you tried cleaning your arrow squid then freezing it overnight before cooking it for breakfast?



The freezing tends to soften arrow squid up nicely in my experience.

To be truthful, I have frozen arrow squid and eaten it. Can't remember if it was tough.

Last night i had some arrow squid which i had in the freezer for 1mth. i pan fried them with a light batter and the rings were very soft, the tentacle on the other hand were a bit chewy.



i had heard that freezing seafood like squid/octapus will soften them up but i always eat them the day after i catch them so i hadnt tried.



i was pleasantly surprised with the arrow squid especially after their "bad reputation", which is justified if you eat them fresh.



freeze one and see how it fares <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Allright. I'll give it a go.



But I'll have to wait for the weather to settle. The arrow squid are over the known reefs near Mt Martha, so I'll have no trouble getting some.



Mind you, waiting a month for them to tenderise in the freezer? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

hehehe i went on holidays so the squid was left in the freezer for a month. it doesn't last for a week otherwise <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Mind you, first decent break and I'm in. Especially to check the storm damage to the grass breeding beds that the calamari love.



Guess what. I cooked up a seafood meal and dredged up a packet of squid from my freezer supply ....... and I found an arrow squid tube. (You know it aint calamari because its not as white in colour) <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />



I diced him and stuffed him with chopped prawns and scallops into an asparagus and mushroom sauce which was then served in vol au vent cases. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

I can tell you what to do with arrow squid



Take one arrow squid slice into rings.

Take one ring and put it aside

take the rest and throw it in the bin

the remaining ring will make a great emergency fan belt lol
