Went out yesterday (5/5/22). Almost filled a 70qt cooler by myself. they are in!

Was a decent day considering it was a day trip and the tide was running fast and hard, with whitecaps at times as well. Most people went home with at least half a bucket and some of us more than that. Sizes varied from very small to a few huge. The point here is that they are here. Most of the catch was off Osterville area about a mile or so off the beach. Get out there. Good luck.

Had my last squid trip last night of Hyannis with good results. The scup moved in full force.
Catch em up.

Two captains I fish with ( just not yesterday or today computer decided to stop feeding my engine fuel so boats back in the shop to hopefully get fixed ) ( this time for sure ) report they were surrounded by seals so it looks like once this storm blows over its gonna be time to play with the scup which are entertaining enough for a few weeks after all who doesnt like invading hordes of big pink bluegills .

Very quiet around the east coast forum for some reason. Anyways, I am back in Edgartown for the month and the squidding has been so-so but the nor'easter was tough to try to fish in. Some squid around but no big masses of them seen so far. One guy I know who works right on the harbor told me he saw them on the surface all over the water two nights ago at 1AM so maybe I just haven't been there when the squid were. Hoping for some great squidding the next few weeks, will post any local squid news. Oh, I have tried Menemsha twice, no real squid action.

Thanks for the report. Friends were catching squid before the big blow on the east entrance if the canal but had little luck after the storm.
Edgartown pretty hot last few days. Sometimes big squid, bagged a bunch with over 10"tubes, got a bunch of castable ones for bass bait. Had some pretty good squidding in Menemsha the last four nights also. I'd say they are in pretty good here on the Vineyard. Guys were getting daytime squid in the channel in Edgartown two days ago. Had to use a one ounce bank sinker with the jig on a 2' leader 2' up from the sinker. A couple guys don't use the leader, they just put the jig on a dropper loop 2' up from the sinker.

Pretty good in Newport tonight until the rain came! Â

Glad to hear they're in good!! We hammered them from the docks in Edgartown and Menemsha last night and Edgartown tonight. More bait size ones in Menemsha, more big ones in Edgartown. Some really big tubes, 12-14" W/O heads/tentacles. Yamashita Naory RH 1.8B seems to be the hot jig as is often the case.

Massive squid blitz in Edgartown yesterday morning early (4:30 AM). All larger squids but they were fighting each other to get the jig.

Gilligan,
Any recent reports in Edgartown? Anyone else have any luck elsewhere? Sandwich is dead. TIA
A couple on the town dock by the yacht club had almost a full fish tote two nights ago, they likely filled it. Squid have been thick all week with daytime squid action in the channel. Still lots of big squid, gotta work to get castable baits among the larger ones. My friend in Menemsha sent me a pic of new ink on the fuel dock there, but Edgartown is probably better. Still stripers on the south shore, but smaller slot fish and lots of shorts. Of course the storm last night may have changed things up a bit but the water temps still pretty warm so they are likely still there.

Hi Squidders, I haven't been to this site in awhile but thought I would let people know that I am in an Internet fishing club that is comprised of fishermen from all over New England, NY and NJ. Most do not own boats. They are running a squid trip both Friday 4/28 and Saturday 4/29 on the Bounty Hunter, a 60 foot boat run by Captain Eric Morrow ( You can google it for more information. )
out of South Yarmouth and will be fishing the Hyannis waters. The trip runs from 7am to 4pm. Cost is $130. The trip is limited to 18 people each day and there are several openings for both days. The departure is out of: Ship Shop Marina, 130 Pleasant Street, South Yarmouth MA If interested, contact me, Snaildarter, at fischbach@ccsu.edu
