We hit Stonington Commercial Dock last Thursday and saw lots of squid, only caught a dozen or so. Â We fished Friday night at Watch Hill by boat and hit them pretty well. Â Nothing in the underwater greens, all in the halogen white. Â We left with a full pail. Â Lots of large just before sundown, then a lull, then it really turned on about an hour after dark at our spot. Â We'll see what's around on Friday and Saturday.

Party boats in RI are getting squid so that means they are around and should be moving into the Docks. Have fun!

We tried Galilee on Thursday afternoon for an hour. Nothing. Stonington for about 4 hours Thursday night. Nothing. OneEyedSquid even the rig blessed by the squid whisperer doesn't work when there are no squid around.
Â
We'd like to thank all those who helped us make this a successful trip. Really enjoyed our time squilding at GIB.

Thanks. Made it home last night. You could not imagine the traffic on the GWBridge and the NJ Turnpike. Might be up again this year if the squid hang around for a while.

FF was slow. I got 19, mostly small ones . My partner got only 7. It was a light crowd. They said on the report couple people got 40...I didn't see anyone with that amount personally, but maybe. Most had 6 to 12 I thought.. I caught a few with weight on bottom, but more when I took weight off and fished near surface. I was out there and had fun, wish the squid were biting better.

Probably around a dozen or 15... Two guys next to me got 2 in the first 10 mins I was there. Didn't see another squid caught in the next 2 hours! I waited for a dragger to come in because a worker there told me that the squid typically follow the boats in from the oxean because of their bright work lights. It pulled right up to unload it's catch of fish 15 feet from me and still no squid!

When no one showed up on Thurs, we though they all knew something we didn't. Must have been the stormy weather that stopped them. The previous Sat, we fished for 4 hours before catching the first squid. From 12-2 it was quite good. So the cephalopods might have shown up later. Who knows, we'll never figure it out.

What's with the squid this year? I've been out to fish in Boston area few times past few weeks and have netted zero. Only saw a few caught prior to me getting there. RI hasn't been hot isn't it?

Went out from sunset to 10 p.m. tonight (Sat) from Fort Adams in Newport. There was tons and tons of bait in the water, but I didn't see a single squid caught. My 7 year-old daughter caught a little schoolie, which was fun. Although, she was sad that she couldn't eat it.

I bet that schoolie was a fight for her! Too bad the squid are not around much. I didn't get a single one in two trips. Hopefully will be able to go one more time and score a few...

Check out this article about the overfishing of squid by net in the Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard area. http://conservefish.org/2017/01/23/marth...o-stripas/
Â
I think this may be why we're not getting as good squid runs as we are used to.
