Newport Ri 2013 Squid Season
I was planning on heading out tonight to GI ahead of the storm. Guy at the bait shop had a friend catch half a bucket in a couple hours from a private dock in Newport. Looks like they are finally starting their hard push into the bay.
Damn Bruce don't let one jerk ruin this forum for you. I did post a very long rant after that guy posted your pictures but I decided to delete my post after 2 hours. I felt I went a bit too far.

This forum is a whole lot more than just posting reports. A lot of great conversation over lights, jigs and everything fishing. IMO

Bruce I totally agree with potOmon, being new to this sport and forum I appreciate and respect your info   :th
Fished out of point judith, Fluke and striper was fair to good, fished over to nebraska shoal and the fluke

we caught there were puking up fresh squid.  I beleive we marked 2 good size piles of squid but couldn't

get them to hit, seems they were balled up pretty good so they must of had predators near by. Checked

some docks around snug harbor and nothing.  Was getting cold and wind was picking up so headed home.

Squid wouldn't bite at GI. A few jumping bass were around though. Headed out to Ft. Adams. My brother pulled in a keeper bass, a baby tautog, a puffer, and a spider crab on a red 1/0 hook with a sandworm. I caught a skate by the tail on a flounder rig with a squid strip.
Please don't let ONE bad apple ruin the whole bunch Bruce! Who's with me????? :-)

I rather that there be no pictures. If he were to post it. Image all the people out there the next day. I enjoy that fact that there is barely anyone at GI.

Wish I could keep it that way.

There's no need to post if you don't want to. Some people are better than others, so they share information to fellow fishermen & friends. Life is better sharing anyways. Squid run are short, people come down just to catch some squids when there's reports of people catching.

So you say it's best to post, in the same breath you say you don't trust a report. Very confusing, and not too cool conger...
Any predictions on how the heavy rain will impact the small hope we had that the bite would improve?
I forgot tell everyone. I caught 18squids on Thursday night before heavy rain starts. It was nice to be dead quiet(no ppl, no argue, nothing) that spot and I kinda enjoyed it.

May be I should keep it that way, since some of member can't trust my report.

One more thing that I want to mention to everyone.

I'm not a magician and I do not want to be doing false report to fooled other member.

When comes down to squid fishing, Just pay attention, watch close to bait fish to see they are active or making a ball, running crazy etc...

Don't let your guard down, keep looking for sign of squid. If not, you are not going to catch anything when squid bite is slow.

Thanks for read this long posting and I feel sorry who can't catch squid but in my opinion, you have to blame your self, not me.

Cheers! Smile)
Thanks for the report Bruce :th

I also went on Thursday. I ended the night with about 20 of em. I didn't want to leave really big squid were right under me. I managed to avoid the paparazzis.
No news for 6 days???

Terrible
I will be fishing at JT tonight. Who want to joint?

PM me Wink
Any luck Bruce?  I spent 3 hours on a dock near the Navy marina and didn't even see a squid...

I saw tons of bait fish and squid but as usual they don't bite, actually fluke were feeding on bait fish and squid was running like a crazy.

Didn't get anything but it was good sign of fluke fishing Smile
Hey Bruce, are you the guy with the generator?
Went out of pt judith today, fished from the breakwalls down the shoreline for 7 miles.  Fluke and

small sea bass were OK.  The Fluke we were pulling up from 30' of water to 50' of water were still

spitting up fresh squid, we even used some of it for bait it was so fresh.  Marked a couple hay stacks

on the bottom in 43 fow that sure looked like squid but could not confirm (or catch).  Lots of boats

all along the shoreline for miles.  Spoke with the regulars at snug harbor and they haven't seen any

squid around the docks at night.  There are squid in the area but with all the predators coming on

strong guess they're just running for their lives.  Maybe when the blue fish move in it will push the

squid inside.  Hope this helps a little.

:thumbsup2:

Hello everyone.

I'm new from Hartford, CT. I went there 3 weeks ago and got only 1 squid for 1 trip. I want to try out again to get some ink this Friday night at Goat Island bridge. Any one want to join? I'll be there around 7pm.
