Newport Ri 2013 Squid Season
Any reports from last night? We are holding off till Sunday eve.
Francis fleet didn't sail last night (and neither did I <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> ). They will go out tonight.

It should be "sporty" out there. Waves 3 ft out of the se, winds from the sw at 15 knots, on top of a reef, 40 air temps. Mmmmmmmm. Gets your blood going. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Been to JT last night, action was really slow or something going on.

No one catch anything yetSad
anyone heading to newport tonight?
I'm thinking of going tonight. I've never been, but reading the forums here, I think I'm already hooked!! You guys are very active on this forum, and I love it. I'd be taking a bit of a ride, but hoping it's worth it. My set up is as simple as it get for the time being. I'm hoping to rope a buddy of mine into going down with me tonight. We'll see.
After 4 tries without a single squid, I decided to just get calamari at a resturaunt.
its been a slow start there was a few who caught some yesterday. my brother got a half bucket at jamestown. unless he went to supermarket and dump them into a bucket to tease me
Went to GI last night. A few herring but no squid.

<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> That would not be nice <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />
Finally more showing up on south shore. Commercial squid fisherman didn't see as many offshore this winter. Could have been the storms.

Squid rigs are dead simple. It would be hard to oversimplify them.

I usually use 10 pound test. Start by putting a sinker loop on the end, then about a foot up put a dropper loop for the first jig, then another a foot above that, and finally another foot or two above that to tie on to a swivel. Just size it to your rod so you can still cast underhand.

Good luck.
Francis fllet's report from last night. Ink's Up!

Well, at least from a boat. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Quote:First mate Troy reported VASTLY improved squid fishing last night on the Lady Frances with hi hook filling 3/4 of a five gallon pail and a few other anglers including Peter Tu filling about 1/2 of a five gallon pail with the tasty mollusks. Quite a few double headers. Everyone caught most anglers doing at least one to two dozen pieces apiece. The biggest squid were reported to be hard down on the bottom with smaller squid more variable in the water column. Capt. Ray was really pleased with the improvement in the local fishery and looks forward to squid fishing tonight and Sunday night at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances. Please call the office to make a reservation or book on line.
Went to JT Friday night and it was really slow(total 9squid for 5hours) but I guess lady France's report indicating squids are slow but surely coming to shore.

I guess next week will be great one!

Gear up boys!!!
Lets hope so
So, where exactly is there a place to fish from shore at night in JT? Getting tired of paying the NPB tolls.
