Newport Ri 2013 Squid Season
Fished GI last night 7pm to 10pm. Few fishermen. No squid yet, but plenty of herring being caught on sabiki rigs. Should be any day now!
We are moving our trip till next week, they are getting closer.
"Should be any day now" Those words have been stuck in my head for two weeks now. I want any time too be now!!!
go to this website www.underwaterfishlight.com. They have a green waterproof led light that is wireless, It has rechargable batteries so no wires hanging in water. Good set up and priced right
You can also kayak green hill during the day and get squid. You can launch from deephole in Matunick. It is about 1.5 miles out in 30 to 40 feet of water. The Frances Fleet fishes for squid there.
Also GI is good from kayak during the day as water temps rise you can fluke and squid. I have talked to divers who have seen large fluke to the west of the hotel
Deepglow.com has some good lights that's where I got mine. And I love it.
I just received the following email from RIDEM regarding the requirement to have a license to fish for squid:

Hi Mr. Burbank,

My name is Kevin Smith and I am a Principal Biologist with the Rhode Island Division of Fish and Wildlife. Ray Macera, up at Licensing, forwarded me your email and asked that I respond to you. To answer your question: Yes, a recreational license is required to recreationally fish for squid. In 2012, the regulations were amended to include squid in the recreational license requirements. Here is a link to the regulations, and if you scroll down to Rule 9, section 9.1, you will see that squid is included: http://www.dem.ri.gov/pubs/regs/regs/fis...ensing.pdf

Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Kevin

Thank you for checking out for usSmile)

Anyway who don't want to pay 7bucks? Do they not gonna fishing for this year??? I don't think so!!!

So get it! You will get plenty of fish or squidXD
Just a reminder that when fishing from a licensed charter boat you don't need a rec fishing license.

Just sayin.
I'll be up there tomorrow night at the bridge to give it a go. Water temp at 51.8 so hopefully the damn squid will make an appearance.
Squid: The other other OTHER white meat
Just went by GI. No one was catching anything, even herring. And it wasn't for lack of trying. They had generators and lights. I suspect the North wind hindered things today. The guy at the bait shop was figuring it would still be another week because of the moon and weather and water temp.
It was great chat Algreenjr! Next time tap in to my genSmile) lets teamed up wipe out that spotXD
Sounds like a plan. Left last night at 11 no squid and no herring. Taking a break and going black fishing untill next weekend
I've got a feeling that once the run starts that it will be a GOOD one! I hope that the power of positive thinking kicks in soon!!

Weather is consistent all this upcoming week, nice to get fresh ones for Mother's Day.
Heard 3 rd hand that there are "few" squid being caught in Chatham on the Cape. From docks.
