new2ink, There are 2 RI DEM boat ramps a stone's throw away from GI Bridge, off Washington St, and there is some parking. One ramp is on Poplar St, the other on Elm St. See this Website http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bnatres/fishwild/boatlnch.htm#salt -S.D.L. Was wondering how calm the water is in/around the G.I. area because I have a 16' bass boat that I'm trying to get into the water this year and maybe thinking about venturing out that way. Are there any boat launches over by the goat bridge? and how's the parking? Any info would be appreciated.
I'm curios about type of jig that I using for squid.
I did have great resolt with yamashita and yo-zuri. Yamashita usually expensive than yo-zuri and other forum arguing that yamashita jig is better than yo-zuri. Therefor I will testing both brand jig this season to see who is suitable in the RI area. Any thought???

Yamashita claim as "way of squid is looking at the bait is like a looking at thermo camera" and "we have warm jacketed squid jig and we also tested side by side with warm jacket and without" their testing video was perfect exam of type of jig make whole different game. I was really amazed! And I was always out fishing using that yamashita jig but the cheapest one is $9.99+tax and most expensive one goes for $20.

is it true that squid charters need to be booked way in advance or well miss out on it?
14-04-2013, 02:48 AM
Why charter when you can squid for free GI is a blast when things get going there are guys who make a living on squid there (not that its right or wrong) point is GI is all you need for squid action, well in my opinion

It's not often that I've heard of a squid fishing charter to be sold out. Yes, they want you to book in advance so they can get a rough idea if it's going to be worth them leaving the dock. The thing about Goat Island that turns me off is the parking is limited and the bridge can be very crowded. Almost elbow to elbow.
Fishing on a charter often has a good amount of room (not always the case) and the fact that they have fish finders allowing them to locate and even follow schools of squid. Don't get me wrong, I have fished GI and will again in the future. But when I'm traveling 2+ hours to fish I like to maximize my odds of catching fish. G.I.S.S. Member #002

Local chartes won't usually sell out way in advance. The fishing and weather is too eratic to know when to book. If nothing else, you can always book on the frances fleet. They will start to run squid trips in may I think. But they will sell out if the squid are around and the weather is nice. Just not weeks in advance.
Some of the boats around nantucket will book out, but they have a muh better squid run. No matter, the advantage of charters is you can go mid wek. The head boats usually only run weekends.

should be here this week am guessing wed-Thursday with the full moon
Anyone know the general area (not numbers, just area) of the hot spot where the squid show up off nantucket or the vineyard? Never taken my boat there for it but it might make a fun adventure.

I may have partally answered my own question. Edgartown harbor had a really strong (daytime even) run of squid last year. The rips in nantucket sound are good locations to check as well.
Last year the run was in early to mid may. Now it comes down to timing. Get it wrong and it's a 100 mile road trip (well, from point judith anyway). Get it right, and its a memorable 100 mile ride. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

that is the problem <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boat.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':boat:' /> we want every trip to be memorable <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/images2.jpg' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='q:' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
