Pier 69 is still producing nice squid. Fished last night for 3 hours. 42 squid - about 5 lbs. Other people catching 3-7 lbs. Season not over yet.

just got back from edmonds with 2 lbs, would have stayed later, but seal came around and it was cold!
Also got about 10 herring, not bad!

I am a total newby to squid fishing. A couple questions
1. Is it true that squid avoid strong currents? I have been fishing off of a dock on the Guemes Island channel between Anacortes and Guemes Island. Pretty strong currents but there are slack areas by the dock. 2. Do you have to be in an area where it is pretty deep to find squid. I have a large area where I can take a boat out that is about 25 feet deep for a long long ways. Will squid come into shallow areas like that? There is much less current in this shallow area. 3. What is the technique for using the squid jigs? Just cast and retrieve or work up and down vertically, or other? Thanks for your help
I've caught squid during a pretty strong current, but also during slack time. Probably more during slack. I always find the squid right on the bottom (They are eating shrimp), and where I'm fishing usually at edmonds, the water is about 45 feet deep at high tide. So they do come to shallows to feed. If you have a boat you can fish for them during the day around 100 ft depth.
All that said, the squid don't seem to go up north... They enter the Puget sound through admiralty inlet and work their way south. Farthest north people are fishing for them is edmonds. I heard of some people trying at Mukilteo but not catching anything. Jigging is up and down motion. Best way to figure out how, is to come to one of the piers down here and watch. The squid in Washington need a specific kind of jig as well, it's smaller than normal jigs you find at Walmart

Edmonds 1/18: was pretty slow at 8pm. The average was 1 per hour for each person.
Tacoma Les Davis 1/12: There was one rush around 9pm where about 20 squid were pulled in within ten minutes by various people. Then it slowed down a lot. I've hit Les Davis about three times in January and this was the only notable visit. Good luck to all

I got there around 8 and the squid came in just after you guys left. I got 2 lbs and 10 Herring in 3 hours. I'm guessing you were the guys with no lights, since the rest of us stayed until 1 I'm going again tonight but the tides don't look promising, so we will see.

I thought we should make a new topic for the new year, even though it's February already.
I just got back from edmonds with 6 squid and 3 lbs of Herring. Seals showed up every time the squid showed up, and scared them away. I caught a seal, it was stealing one of my Herring and wouldn't let go. I brought it up with 10lb monofilament too, haha. Anyway, the squid I caught were good size! Season not over yet!

Edmonds last night I got 8 nice sized squid and a bunch of Herring and an octopus.
It was slow though.

Last night at edmonds I only stayed 3 and a half hours but caught 13 squid, good size too! And of course Herring. I cured this Herring for salmon season coming up. Free bait!

It's gonna be crazy out there tomorrow, I'll be out there! Be safe, stay warm and dry!

Got 6 lbs at edmonds last night! It was crazy, I was he only person there after 10:30 and all of the sudden I was pulling up 2-3 at a time until I left at 1:30. I would have stayed longer if I wasn't sick.
Awesome night, and just when I thought the season might finally be over.

At Edmonds on Friday only caught 3 squid. Seals were there all night.
I might not go this Friday, but I'm going to Japan for a few weeks so I'll have to try there.

I went last night, caught zero squid. I fished for flounder for a while and didn't catch any of them either, though I saw a few huge ones swimming.
See you guys in July. Salmon during the day, squid at night, who could ask for more!

Haven't posted in a long, long time but wanted to say hello to you all. My jigging/fishing buddy, Darrell, passed away in the fall of 2010 and I haven't been jigging since. But am hoping to get going again now that I've met some new friends who're into fishing and hunting. My usual haunt was the Redondo pier in Federal Way... I have to try to remember what the squid seasons and everything are, again, lol...
So anyhow, hello!

Welcome! Sorry for your loss. It's even worse losing a fishing buddy. I often fish in DT Seattle and caught a season whoping of about 345 pounds. If interested wi. Fishing with me. PM me, Julesong. I got a handful of spots that are good (Tide permitting) and I don't have a generator. Good fishing! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
